Bead Study Show and Tell

Oct 27, 2018 | Beading Study Group

At our October 9 meeting, we welcomed our newest member, Elisa Reutinger, to the bead study group. She loves oil painting, clothing, and beading. She displayed her fabric beads and necklace that she was designing. Check out her booth at this year’s Art to Wear and More event in November!

We had a “show and tell meeting” as they are so much fun, and everyone had a chance to show off a project they are working on or had completed. Anne DeStefano showed some necklaces created using kumihimo, inspiring a request that she teach kumihimo to the group. Karen Bennett provided supplies for everyone to make pumpkin earrings for Halloween.

November meeting

At the next bead study group meeting, on November 13, Anne DeStefano will teach the basics of kumihimo braiding, which has been used by samurai warriors in Japan. She said we need to learn to do it with cord first, before adding beads. See the calendar event for the supply list and more details.

December meeting

Our December meeting will be held at Amy Johnson’s house on December 11. This will be a potluck – sign up at the November meeting for a dish you’ll bring. It will also be a chance to sell any excess beads, buttons, findings, accessories, or supplies you have. Amy will provide tables; price your items before you come.

January meeting

Anne DeStefano will continue her kumihimo instruction at the meeting on January 8.

Many thanks to Bead Study Group chair, Carolyn Granados, for the photos and report!
