For the February Needle Arts Study Group, we will continue our exploration of modular knitting with mitered square modules. The inspiration for our study of modular knitting is Ginger Luter’s book, Module Magic. Bring 2-3 colors of a DK or worsted-weight yarn of any kind, appropriate-sized knitting needles (either dpns, straight, or circular), appropriate-sized crochet hook, scissors, and a yarn needle. Also bring any other needle arts project you are currently working on – we mix our topic (currently modular knitting) with sharing of our other current inspirations.
For this meeting, we will again be at the Shepard Garden & Art Center on February 20th from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. This meeting is free for SCTA members. The first meeting for a visitor is free, after that the meetings will still be free if you become a member of the SCTA. Otherwise, each meeting is $5.00.
Coming up in March
For the March meeting, we will continue developing our skills with mitered squares through ways to pick up on the edges of the squares so we don’t have to sew any squares together. We are learning our techniques from Ginger Luter’s Module Magic, but are also inspired by Vivian Hoxbro’s “Domino Knitting” and Horst Schultz’s “Patchwork Knitting” which elevate the humble mitered square to new heights. And if you are a crocheter, the same principles of mitered squares have applications in crochet, so please join us as a crocheter!
